Inauguration ceremony

The official stand inauguration took place Wednesday 10th  at 10:00

The inauguration was followed at 10:30 by a special media event with United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan and Web inventor Tim Berners-Lee.

Visit of Mr. Kofi Annan, Secretary-General of the United Nations

   

Mr. Kofi Annan and Dr. Tim Berners-Lee, the inventor of the Word-Wide Web, have each sent an email from the world's first web server.

UN delegation arrives at CERN stand and is welcomed by Prof. Luciano Maiani, Director General of CERN.

Kofi Annan UN Secretary-General replies.

Tim Berners-Lee makes brief remarks.

 CERN Director General announces that UN Secretary-General and Tim Berners-Lee will send emails to 800 schools in 80 countries. Secretary-General's message is projected on to a screen.

10:40

Secretary-General and Tim Berners-Lee walk over to the computer. Secretary-General sends his email. World map is projected on the screen and countries where the message is being sent light up  one by one

Tim Berners-Lee sends his email. His message is projected first alone and then alongside the Secretary-General's message.

UN delegation and Tim Berners-Lee talk to children on the CERN stand.

UN delegation leaves.
